Here’s a few ideas to keep your website relevant!

Add content or change around your content at least once a month. “Google has stated we want fresh content in our top searches”

Make sure your blogging at least once a week! ” if you don’t have a blog “get one”

Integrate all of your social networks together. “Facebook, Twitter and blog to name a few”

Provide your website visitors with an RSS Feed.

Keep your pictures up to date, if you have staff profiles.

Update and change your meta tags

Use tracking software/programs to see how many visits and where your traffic is coming from! Google has a beta software out to block tracking your site, make sure you have more than one tracking software.

We hope to see you in my next Google search!

In the past websites would put all kinds of basic links going from one site to another, in today’s world you better watch out! The power of Google will knock down your rating if it finds links that are NOT relevant to you site and products. Google will also look to see what page ranks these links have! The bottom line is inbound links are very important, but if they are not from top ranked pages and relevant to your site and product, don’t do it! You are better off having 10 good inbound links, compared to 100 “bad” links! Beware Google is watching and will make you pay!

Well…. It’s not that hard to be annoying. However, some webmasters are much better than others at annoying their visitors. Check my top 5 list and decide for yourself whether you have been annoying your visitors.

Background music – Unless you are operating an online internet radio station or sell music CDs, why play a midi/wav file in the background continuously on every page?

Huge font size – If you are designing a website for people with a disability then you are doing the right thing, but if not then you are shouting. People don’t like it when someone shouts at them.

Small font size – Do you want to be heard? Keep a normal tone, don’t shout but “speak” in a reasonable volume.

Overlapping layers – Layers can be very useful up to the point. But not when they are being used to put an annoying message in the visitor’s face. Don’t try to force your visitor to read your messages. Try persuasion instead of brute force.

Pop-up windows – Even though pop-up windows are now blocked by many add on tools, webmasters keep using them. The annoying part of pop-ups is sometimes we actually miss important information because of those anti popup tools. Haven’t you heard the old phrase “if you can’t beat him, join him”? Don’t use pop up windows. Put your important messages in a central place on your website.

If your web designer or search engine optimization contractor is not listening to you, it’s time you look for a new source! Communication is the key in providing clients with knowledge, so they understand what actions are being taken. We generate notes on what changes have been made to improve your SEO, along with reports showing important data.

How do you increase your search engine ranking? You optimize your site! What Does this mean.

Surveys show that only 7% of all websites are optimized for the web, which means that 93% are NOT! This process can be very challenging, it can also be very simple. Here at www.douglevydesigns.com we use lots of fancy programs, crunch stats and spend hours on end researching keywords for our clients. What I’ve found to be very effective without all the cost is ask your friends, yes it can be that simple. E-mail a group of your friends and ask them to perform maybe 10 searches related to your business, and let you know what they would use again!

OK, so your saying what does this do for me, here’s the fun part! You take these key words and find ways to incorporate them into your sites main text and also add them to your tittle tag and meta tags!

Give it a try, you might find some success!
